Amsterdam

Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands.It has a population of 805,166 inhabitants. The city is located on the province of North Holland. Amsterdam is one of the most popular turist destinations in Europe. It is also the financial and bussines capital of the Netherlands.

History

Amsterdam was founded when the fisherman, living along the banks of the river Amstel, created a bridge that worked as a dam. Before the World War II, Amsterdam was the world's centre for the diamond trade. During the World War II the germans occupied Amsterdam. A famous jew girl that lived there was Anna Frank.

Famous sigths

The most important museums of Amsterdam are located on the Museumplein (Museum Square). Amsterdam has three main buildings of art performance: The Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam, Het Muziektheater, Royal Theatre Carré.

Gastronomy

The main typical diches in Amsterdam are:

-Bitterbailen. This are like croquette of meat and it´s mainly eaten in bars, cafes and restaurants.

-Nasi. This is like fried rice with lots of condiments like sugar and spicy flavours.

Transport

Amsterdam is known as the "North Venice". There are lots of canals so there aren't to much cars. The trafic is very complicated and they need a way to travel easily so they invented the first bicycles.

Climate

Amsterdam has an Oceanic climate. Summers are moderatly warm but not hot, in winter it could be easlily -12ºC.
